Centralized Examination

Sunday School Centralized Examinations in the Northeast American Diocese are Examinations held on a central, Diocesan basis once a year towards the end of the School Year. For the year 2022 they are held in the 10th and 12th Grades of Sunday School on June 26, 2022.  The exams are administered in various approved Centers (Parish/Church buildings) within the Diocese under the responsibility of previously approved Proctors. Proctors are usually Principals or Teachers who have volunteered for the job. Question Setters and Evaluators are also approved volunteer staff from among the Teachers in the Diocese. Questions are based on the Curriculum prescribed for the set Grade, which include Text Book/Workbook, Common Prayers, Worship Songs, Meanings of Syriac/Greek Words and Phrases used in worship etc. Also, 10th and 12th Grade Exams, there is a stipulation that 20% of the TextBook/WorkBook Questions will be from the TextBooks/WorkBooks of the Preceding Grade.

Participation in the Centralized Examinations is based on Principals of the Sunday Schools of the various Parishes in the Diocese registering their students of the Grades given above, within a previously announced period of time.

The purpose of the Centralized Examinations is two-fold. The first is to encourage the students to study well and understand the basic concepts of our Orthodox faith that is based on Biblical truths and Church tradition which in turn expectedly would help them live as good Orthodox Christians. The second is to acknowledge and honor the students who perform well in these exams and for the Church leadership to evaluate the overall depth of knowledge-base that our young generation holds and make any necessary changes in curriculum and modes of training of the students and teachers to make them more relevant and current but true to faith.

As of now, passing the Centralized Exams in the 10th and 12th Grades and the TTC exam would lead to the award of Certificates/Diplomas. For TTC, the 1st and 2nd rank holders are acknowledged and rewarded.
